What better way to beat the winter blues than have your imagination fired with Cirque du Soleil’s latest show, TOTEM at the Royal Albert Hall?

Robert Lepage is one of the world’s most creative theatre-makers and with stunning acrobatics and daring aerial acrobatics, this show is truly inspiring.

Cirque du Soleil’s website clearly states their ambitious objective: ‘Somewhere between science and legend TOTEM explores the ties that bind Man to other species, his dreams and his infinite potential.’ And to be fair, they mainly live up to this tall order.

TOTEM is about the evolution of the species - Darwinism meets the circus - from our origins as reptiles in the swamp to our ultimate aspirations to fly. The Darwin character spins illuminated balls in a man-sized funnel, along with Neanderthal man. Other highlights include a roller-skating Native American duet, a group of 5 unicyclists, throwing bowls and a teapot onto each others’ heads with their feet and a breath-taking couple on the trapeze – artfully depicting passionate, young love.

So now you really don’t have an excuse for sitting on the sofa – book yourself some tickets and experience the magic of TOTEM.
