Goodbye to the Old Vic Tunnels

The end of an era as the Old Vic Tunnels close.

Friday saw the finish of one of London’s most innovative and exciting arts and events spaces, the Old Vic Tunnels under Waterloo Station. Since its discovery in 2009 the 30,000 square foot venue has played host to a diverse programme of events: everything from cutting-edge exhibitions such as Lazarides’ collaboration Bedlam ; charity fundraisers including Stuart Semple’s Mindful exhibition and arts festival for the mental health charity Mind; to unique brand activities like Wahaca’s Day of the Dead Festival. Our most recent favourite was over Christmas when the tunnels were transformed into a Northern Lights themed wonderland with pine forests, smoking volcanoes, hunting lodge bars and a subterranean lake on which guests rowed their boats from room to flooded room.

Even in a city full of unique events spaces such as London, we’ll miss the gritty magic and dark splendour of The Old Vic Tunnels.
